TRADITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

LONG BEACH CITY COLLEGE

  • Long Beach area high school seniors
  • Selection based on recommendations of high school counselors
  • $1,000-$1,200 per year: a $500 scholarship for 1st and 2nd semester; and an increase to $600 each additional semester
  • Renewed through graduation or up to six semesters if student remains eligible by maintaining at least 12 units per semester and a minimum 2.0 GPA
  • The scholarship can be used for tuition, health fees, student fees (labs, parking, etc.), books, and supplies
  • At the end of six (6) semesters or upon graduation/transfer, remaining scholarship funds will be returned to the Long Beach Rotary Scholarship Foundation
  • Scholarship recipients who maintain a 3.0 or higher grade point average receive $1,500 per year
  • Application deadline is April 30th

CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, LONG BEACH

  • Long Beach area high school seniors or matriculated (transferred) from Rotary LBCC scholarship program to CSULB
  • $2,500 annual scholarship: $1,250 per semester
  • Renewed through graduation, or up to ten semesters if student remains eligible by maintaining at least 12 units per semester and a minimum 2.0 GPA
  • The scholarship must be used for tuition only
  • Application deadline is April 30th

NEWELL FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Frank and Margie Newell made a generous gift to the Foundation to fund scholarships for high school graduates of the two schools where members of the Newell Family received their education – Wilson and Poly.   Scholars will be awarded $5,000 for CSULB and $2,500 for LBCC.

  • Scholarship is for a one year period
  • Applicants may or may not be Rotary Scholarship recipients
  • Open to June graduates of Long Beach Polytechnic High School or Long Beach Wilson High School
  • Students must be accepted to and enrolled as current Fall incoming freshmen at LBCC or CSULB
  • Criteria includes but not limited to students who have overcome personal, family or economic challenges
  • Criteria includes but not limited to students who are a source of inspiration through community service, extra-curricular activities and accomplishments

COCHRAN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Don Cochran made a generous gift to the Foundation to fund scholarships for LBUSD high school graduates who reside in North/West Long Beach where Don and his wife, Maria, grew up.  The scholarship is awarded to one (1) graduating senior planning to attend Long Beach City College.  The scholarship is in the amount of $1,500 ($750 per semester).  The scholarship is renewable for up to six (6) semesters at LBCC and can be transferred to CSULB in the amount of $2,500 ($1,250 per semester) for an additional four (4) semesters if student maintains eligibility criteria.

  • Resident of North/West Long Beach — specifically the zip codes of 90805 or 90810
  • Applicants may or may not be Rotary Scholarship recipients
  • Open to June graduates of Long Beach Unified School District high school
  • Students must be accepted to and enrolled as current Fall incoming freshmen at Long Beach City College
  • Criteria includes but not limited to students who have overcome personal, family or economic challenges

SCHNEIDER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

The Schneider Family Scholarship was established to support and reward students with a learning challenge, such as ADHD, dyslexia, processing disorder, etc. The scholarship is awarded to one (1) graduating senior planning to attend CSU, Long Beach.  The scholarship is in the amount of $2,500 ($1,250 per semester).  The scholarship is renewable for up to ten (10) semesters.

  • Applicant must describe their learning difference, and express how they are working to accomplish their educational and professional goals.
  • Applicants may or may not be Rotary Scholarship recipients
  • Open to June graduates of Long Beach Unified School District high school
  • Students must be accepted to and enrolled as current Fall incoming freshmen at CSU, Long Beach
